Ferry ride to Uruguay with photos

On Tuesday January 6th we departed to Uruguay.  We took a ferry across the Rio de la Plata from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Colonia de Sacramento, Uruguay.  It is one of the world’s largest rivers. There are two options to travel across the river a short ferry ride (one hour) or a slower ferry ride (three hours). Going over to Uruguay we took the three hour ferry ride to be able to see more of the sights as the three hour ferry has a top deck that you can sit outside and enjoy the views and temperatures. The one hour ferry does not have that option.

When we got to Uruguay we went to the hotel and checked in. The hotel was very nice and we all felt very safe and relaxed.  Then went to check out Colonia’s historic district.  It was very beautiful with old colorful buildings and cobblestone streets.  Many of the students had time to buy souvenirs and get some authentic Uruguayan cuisine.

Since we were now in another country we had to go through immigration before getting on the ferry and also we dealt with different money. Uruguay also deals in Peso's but the exchange rate is different than that in Argentina. When we were it the US dollar would buy you 25 peso's. So a 100 peso item would cost $4 U.S. dollars.

Chad Knoblock and Jacob Meyer looking out across the river from the top deck of the ferry. Looks like they seen something.

A lighthouse just as the ferry pulls into the Uruguay port.
